3 Reasons You Need a Dental and Vision Plan | How to Insurance | 056

Hi, I’m Peter!

Welcome to HOW TO INSURANCE

Helping YOU understand insurance,

building CONFIDENCE for your future!

Once you have your health insurance, the next step is Dental and Vision Insurance.

It only takes one major dental emergency to drain your savings.

So, it's wise to have a plan to care for your teeth (and eyes) and protect your finances!

Today we are talking about:

3 Reasons You Need a Dental and Vision Plan

Forgetting (or choosing not to enroll in) a dental and vision plan is really easy.

When dental and vision is included with your employer health plan, it’s a nice perk, but something you don’t realize is an important benefit. We kind of take it for granted.

However, when you’re in charge of getting your own dental and vision plan, it’s really easy to overlook it!

For one thing… we falsely assume that dental and vision are included with your medical health insurance. They aren’t!

You have to add dental and vision and do a separate enrollment.

So here are the 3 reasons you NEED a dental and vision plan:

1. You will use it if you have it!

If you’re paying for it, you’re going to be motivated to make an appointment. This is important because the quality and health of your eyes and teeth are important!

How often do you use your teeth? (every day!)

How often do you use your eyes? (every day!)

So why do we so easily forget to take care of them and get them checked regularly?

Get dental and vision insurance and this will change!

2. Easy to enroll on your own!

Signing up for dental and vision insurance is really simple.

One, we can do it directly from your state exchange (the website we got your health insurance from)

Two, you can do directly (enroll through the links provided below) and enroll.

Just ask your independent broker to help or you can do it yourself when you’re ready!

3. It saves money!

Insurance saves money. That’s why you get it!

If it didn’t save money, no one would get it.

Don’t “self-insure” your teeth and eyes because they are very expensive to maintain, fix, and repair!

For example, let’s say you want to get a dental cleaning twice a year (as you should).

The cleaning will cost about $150+ if you pay out of pocket.

That’s $300+ a year you’re spending on cleanings alone.

Your dental insurance can cost as little as $15/month, which is $180/year.

You’re saving almost half just there!

But the dental insurance covers other benefits that will also save you more.

So, it just makes sense to have the right insurance and save money.

As an insurance broker, I’m aware of all the different options out there and here are...

The options I recommend for you:

Delta Dental

I highly recommend Delta Dental, as they are the top dental insurance provider, have many plans to choose from, and almost every dental office accepts their insurance.

You can click here to shop and enroll yourself! Shop the different plans, looking at any waiting periods and maximum coverage amounts. Call your dentist to make sure they accept the plan you want.

Enroll in a Delta Dental Plan yourself here for CA plans and here for OR and WA plans

1Dental

1Dental is a dental insurance alternative that provides a big discount on services for a very low-cost membership fee. This provides a great discount dental plan that has no waiting period and is only $99/year! 1Dental was recently endorsed by Dave Ramsey, America's top personal finance expert.

Shop and Enroll in 1Dental Here.

Medicaid Dental

If you are covered under your state’s health insurance (medicaid), then you have access to free dental cleanings! Call your medicaid provider and book an appointment now.

VSP Vision

Your health insurance doesn't cover eye exams, glass frames, or contact lens. If you'd like to add a vision plan, I recommend VSP! This is the best vision plan that I know of. Click on that link to see what benefits they offer. The payment options start as low as $12/mo.

Shop and Enroll in VSP Individual Vision Plans here for CA and here for OR and WA

Insider Tips:

Effective Dates.

Most dental plans begin on the 1st of the month. So if you sign up before the 15th-20th of the month, it can be effective by the first of the next month.

Waiting Periods.

Many dental plans have a waiting period before major procedures can be covered. So read the fine print and plan ahead! Call your dentist... to make sure they accept a particular plan before enrolling.

Next Steps:

  1. Research the plans

  2. Enroll yourself online (using those links above)

  3. Contact your trusted independent insurance broker with any questions.

I look forward to hearing from you!
